Coming to your photoshoot (un)prepared

When you think about photoshoot, here are some questions that may be overwhelming… Your photographer should definitely be able to help you through.

  • What kind of images are you hoping to walk away with from your photoshoot?

  • Do you find yourself drawn to images that show off your work, your brand, your glamour, your body, your family and pets, or all of the above?

  • What style are you drawn to - lifestyle/editorial, beauty and glamour, fine arts, photojournalistic, fashion, etc.

Lifestyle and editorial

It can be very difficult to articulate your own style and that is something you should not be doing on your own.

My advice to my clients is to open a Pinterest (www.pinterest.com) and start searching. Search for everything you find beautiful - clothing, accessories, furniture, homes, interior design, nature, different fabric designs and patterns and so on. Create a pinterest board where you will keep all the selected pictures, so that you can return to them and take another look. Soon and after a little bit of culling you will come to what exactly speaks to you and you will know your style.

Glamour and Fashion

Your photographer may use your board to determine what photoshoot style you are drawn to and present you some photoshoot ideas you may love.

Apart from photography style ideas, you and your photographer will talk about your wardrobe. What to bring to the shoot and what you would like to wear.

Branding

My clients are free to choose. We design the photoshoot together where we let our imagination fly - from seeing themselves wearing ball gowns, crowns and Victorian wigs, to little black dress with Chanel bag and a pillbox hat, to feeling rebellious in black leather on bikes straight from the 50s, or anything else we come up with.

Family

Preparing your body for the photoshoot is another aspect of self love.

I ask my clients to have a good night sleep before the photoshoot. They usually pamper themselves visiting a manicure and pedicure salon to get their finished and polished look. Nurturing your face and lips and moisturizing them to eliminate dry skin is very important. And wouldn’t hurt to build a simple routine and follow it every day.

If any other issues arise, we address them in time so that clients are relaxed and self loving on the photoshoot day.

What are your expectations? How would you prepare for your photoshoot? Would you go shopping for new attire? Where would you shop?
